Someone recently forwarded me an article from the LA Times that starts out “The sign inside the airport terminal here proclaims a dusty mesa a few miles away to be “Hollywood’s Newest Home,” a reference to a plot of land where four vanilla-colored soundstages recently sprouted.”
It goes on to talk about Albuquerque Studios – the new soundstages in Albuquerque’s southeast part of town – the size of 10 large supermarkets – with facilities second to none in the US.
Indeed Albuquerque is Hollywood’s Newest Home. From Albuquerque Studios’ remarkable soundstages to motion‘s extraordinary conference this fall – Albuquerque’s looking like a whole new town.
This fall folks will not only be coming to Albuquerque for the International Balloon Fiesta – they will be coming to see the artists who created animations and visual effects for The Bourne Ultimatum, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Disney, The Simpsons and Nickelodeon.
Right here in Albuquerque. Top animators, motion graphics artists, and broadcast designers from Hollywood – and around the world.
This is the first time such a wealth of industry talent has come to one place– at the same time and in one location. Names like Mark Coleran (The Bourne Ultimatum, Mission Impossible), Phil Nibbelink (Disney, worked with Steven Spielberg to form Amblimation, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Cats”), After Effects gurus Trish and Chris Meyer… right here in Albuquerque!
Am I excited about this event? You betcha! Do I have a personal connection to the event? You betcha! I am the co-producer of the Best in the SW: Flash Animation and Motion Graphics Festival.
I have been to tons of industry conferences around the country – and have yet to find one that focuses on ‘the art’ of animation, motion graphics and broadcast design. Since there has been so much growth in the motion picture industry in New Mexico, I thought – why not host an extraordinary event – with extraordinary talent – in an extraordinary city. Thus, motion was born.
Here’s a great opportunity for people from around the globe to see top talent and be inspired – in a city that is absolutely delightful. Fall is the best time of the year here. Crisp cool mornings and low 70s by afternoon. Over 700 hot-air balloons at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Santa Fe’s just an hour up the road. The colors of the fall trees and smells of green chile roasting — there’s nothing like it.
So if you are up for a new and unique experience – come and check it out! motion :: Flash Animation, VFX & Motion Graphics Festival takes place October 8-11 . . . right here in Albuquerque!
