Motion Design @ Cut&Paste Competition
Motion Design @ Cut&Paste Competition
Feb 04Motion Design is becoming more prevalent in the public eye – and I love it. As the co-producer of motion – an annual motion graphics, animation and vfx show, it’s exciting for me to see the increased interest. Ok – let’s be more specific. It’s nice that some people have heard the term ‘motion graphics’
For those of us who are forever explaining what we do – it’s nice when it starts to enter the mainstream.
This year, the Cut&Paste competition has added motion design as a category. Sweet! Just what is the competition? The Motion Design competition is the marathon of the Digital Design Tournament. That is, an 8-hour marathon where four solo competitors sprint from start to finish, side by side and frame by frame, to render their way across the finish line.
Over the course of a single eight-hour round, four individual designers will go head to head as they design a 15-second motion design masterpiece on a theme supplied by Cut&Paste – all in front of a live audience.
In all cities in Digital Design Tournament 2009, the live event will run in the range of 5-6 hours. Competing designers in the Motion Design competition only will therefore get an early start on the day and begin work before doors open. When the event begins, they’ll continue to work on a side stage in full view of the crowd, with much of their work displayed by large-scale projection in real time. At the end of the round, when 8 hours have elapsed, teams will submit their rendered clips and the final work will be played for evaluation by both the judges and the audience.
So, get in on the action. Participate in the event – or at least show up to watch the show. Should be great!
